So you don't have to search for long, here's my personal top 5 of the best ice cream parlours and ice cream cafés in Cala Millor and the surrounding area – from creamy gelato to a huge vegan selection. Each tip comes with a direct Google Maps link.
The 5 best ice cream parlours in Cala Millor – my top list
-
1
Bar Heladería Rafaello
My absolute number 1. Rafaello is beautifully located directly on the beach promenade between Cala Millor and Cala Bona – here you can enjoy your ice cream with a sea view. The selection of flavours is huge: from classics like vanilla and chocolate to unusual creations like bubblegum or “smurf” ice cream, which the kids especially love. The coffee is also excellent. Small tip: on hot afternoons it can take a bit of time, but the quality is absolutely worth the wait.

Gelats Garau
For me, this is the best address when it comes to variety – and clearly the number 1 spot for anyone looking for vegan ice cream. The range of vegan flavours is exceptionally large (pistachio, yuzu, mango, yoghurt-amarena and more), and there's also ice cream sweetened with stevia or lactose-free options. The café itself is quite simple, but the ice cream quality is first-class and the staff are super friendly. Many holidaymakers make a special trip here – which really says it all.

Bernardini
Bernardini is an institution and, with over 1,000 Google reviews, the best-known address on this list. Here you get not only ice cream, but also really good coffee, cakes and waffles in a cosy atmosphere. The friendly service is especially praised. Ideal if you want to combine your ice cream with a little coffee break.

Cafetería Heladería Osiris
Osiris is a real all-rounder: besides excellent ice cream and cakes, it also offers hearty dishes (the paella is often praised) and coffee specialities. The value for money is great, the staff are warm and friendly, and it's open until late at night – perfect for an ice cream after dinner. For kids, there are creative flavours like the popular Pokémon ice cream.

Eiscafé La Sirena
La Sirena stands out especially for its outstanding, friendly service and lovely location – many guests keep coming back during their holiday. The ice cream quality is top-notch, the selection of ice cream sundaes is large, and there's also plenty to choose from when it comes to drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and small snacks. A solid, likeable finish to my top 5.

🌱 Vegan, sugar-free & lactose-free ice cream
If you avoid animal products or sugar, you'll find exactly what you need at Gelats Garau There you'll find the largest selection of vegan fruit ice cream (completely dairy-free) as well as flavours sweetened with stevia and lactose-free options. Some other cafés now also offer vegan options – it's best to ask directly on-site about the flavours available that day.
Interesting facts about ice cream
The term “ice cream” generally refers to a frozen treat that melts in your mouth when eaten. The origins of this cold dessert likely lie in ancient China – not, as often assumed, in Italy. As early as the 11th century, frozen water or “snow” was sold by street vendors both in China and in Arab countries.
It wasn't until the 16th century that a modified version of ice cream – now made from fruit juice and water – made its way from Italy to Paris. The first ice cream provably made from cream can even be found in a German cookbook from 1567.
It would take a few more years before today's ice cream developed from this. In 1692, Italian writings mention that ice cream was now being made from milk, sugar, fruit and spices such as cinnamon or chocolate. The modern way of making ice cream, as we know it today, can indeed be traced largely back to Italian craftsmanship.
The most popular ice cream flavours
There's fruit ice cream, which doesn't use any milk and is therefore also suitable for vegans Besides that, there's classic dairy ice cream and countless creations – sweet or savoury, fruity or creamy.
Despite the huge variety of flavours and ever new ideas, vanilla, lemon, chocolate and strawberry remain the most popular choices. And if one flavour deserves the top spot, it's usually ice cream made with bourbon vanilla.
